Silviagod's Site

Time Control Unit:
The picture shows two Bluebird Time Control Units along with an illumination control switch previously mentioned. The units can be found in the right hand kick-panel in the driver's foot-well. They are quite complicated, but if you can understand the schematic diagram and are good with a soldering iron then this is worth doing.
It provides interior light fade, replaces the annoying lights left on buzzer for a pleasant ding dong, adds a timer to the heated rear window, replaces the ugly big illumination control knob for a neater switch and provides a flashing seatbelt warning lamp to all the three Silvia cars. There are other features that I have not used.
In addition to the standard single interior light all three cars have added lights. Above each foot-well is illuminated (foot lights), and the red light in each door illuminates (step lights). The interior light switch has been modified so that the switch off position controls all the lights on the system. The interior light fade is wired to operate from the driver's door only.

Bulb Failure Sensor:
Found again in the Bluebird, in the boot behind the trim on the driver's side, near the top of the opening. This unit monitors stop/tail lamp bulbs, but you can use it to monitor reversing lamps, rear fog lamps and front clearance lamps (provided they are 5W) The rear lighting on all three cars is identical, as silviagod's wife's and the spare Silvia had to have their rear lights changed for the earlier type. I couldn't tolerate the style of the later units, especially with the chrome strip. This was not a straight forward job as usual as there was no reversing lamp or fog lamp in the earlier type.
The problem was solved using a black relay instead of the blue one and the inner brake lamps became fog lamps when needed. The bumper had to be cut to house two reversing lamps. There are also yellow sensors that I have found in the Nissan Sunny. These monitor 2 x 21W + 2 x 5W whilst the green one monitors 2 x 21W + 4 x 5W.

One-Touch Amp:
This is the unit used to provide closure of the sunroof fitted to silviagod's sunroof. It is also used to close the sunroof and windows on the 200SX project. It is triggered from a momentary earth and can be easily linked to a central locking interface.

The wiring colour codes for the switch operation are as follows:
Blue/White + Black + Blue/Black            One touch Close
Blue/White + Black + Blue/Red               One touch Open
White/Red                                                  Positive
Black                                                          Negative
Yellow/Red                                                Motor
Green/White                                              Motor
Blue/Black + Black                                   Manual Close
Blue/Red + Black                                      Manual Open

Headlamp Failure Sensor:
Due to lack of availability these units are only fitted to silviagod's car. They can be found in the rear of the 1984 Bluebird Estate models as they monitor stop/tail lamps.
The ground wire from the bulb runs through a coil of wire in this unit creating a magnet, a reed switch in the centre of the coil is switched telling the circuit not to illuminate the warning lamp. If a bulb has blown no current passes and the light illuminates. The units were originally designed for 2 x 21 W and 2 x 5 W monitoring so two units were used to make one. Two of the heavier gauge coils were fitted into one unit and the headlamp earth wires sent through each coil.
I have since tried 100W bulbs and the unit copes perfectly.
Silviagod's car has the front fog lights monitored by one of these modified units.

Passing Timer:
Automates the flashing of the headlamps with a brief touch of the control leaving the hand free to gesture at the person you are flashing. Fitted to the three Silvia models and planned for the 200SX project. Listed in the manual but with the irritating except Europe phrase.

Extra space:
I have thrown up another little site with the intentions of improving it and adding more pictures. My web skills are only limited but I am trying to learn with the limited time I have available. Please have a look and feel free to offer suggestions.
